Use Tile Tattoos for a New Look

If one thing remains constant in the home improvement industry, it’s innovation. Newer, better, faster, shinier; it’s the mantra that won’t quit. Whoever said there’s nothing new under the sun never shopped at Lowe’s or Home Depot. And what’s new now? Tile tattoos. When the kitchen, shower enclosure, or bathroom tile walls get to looking a bit drab, why not use tile tattoos for a new custom look?

Tile tattoos are a great idea and the name is bound to make sales just because of the word “tattoo”. Tattoos, once shunned socially, have become mainstream during the last decade. In fact, a Pew Research Center survey shows that thirty-six percent of people ages 18 to 25, and an astounding forty percent of people ages 26 to 40, have had at least one tattoo emblazoned on themselves.

Small wonder that the manufacturers and sellers have chosen to call their product “tile tattoos”. And they make for a quick DIY project that has a major design impact.

So, what is a Tile Tattoo?

A tile tattoo is basically a graphic sticker, engineered to be used in high-moisture areas of the home, to accent or even re-color individual ceramic tiles on the bath or kitchen wall. For obvious reasons, they’re not good candidates for ceramic tile floors.

Tile tattoos can be either solid color (for example, to alternate white/black), or just a theme or pattern decal that accentuates the ceramic wall tiles already in place. For example, if after a repair job, the DIY person can’t find an exact match for the tiles that always seem to break. Just get as close as possible and use tile tattoos as a kind of camouflage campaign.

So how are Tile Tattoos Used?

It’s simple to use tile tattoos! Just follow these steps:

Can Tile Tattoos be Moved?

With good quality tile tattoos, moving them is generally no problem. They will adhere to the tile statically, similar to the way car windshield stickers work. Simply peel them off and put them onto the new location. As before, just be sure that the new surface has been completely cleaned to ensure satisfaction.

Summary

Using tile tattoos is a fast and easy way to spiff up and to give the kitchen or bathroom tile walls that added touch of class without going through a complete remodel. Just clean completely and apply tile tattoos! Try this technique if under the gun for time or remodeling dollars.
